'Me' shows I am doing the action to myself.
Tú te lavas.
You wash yourself.
'Te' is the informal 'you' reflexive pronoun.
Nosotros nos lavamos.
We wash ourselves.
'Nos' means 'ourselves' in this context.

When using 'can' (puedes), the 'te' attaches to the end of the action word.
Lávate con cuidado.
Wash yourself gently.
This is a command; 'gently' is often expressed as 'con cuidado' (with care).
