Spanish phrases for our busy week

  • Tienes fútbol el lunes.

    You have football on Monday.

    'El' is used before the day to mean 'on'.

  • Leemos juntos el martes.

    We read together on Tuesday.

    Days of the week are not capitalized in Spanish.

  • Tu amigo viene el miércoles.

    Your friend comes on Wednesday.

    Notice the accent mark on 'miércoles'.

  • Caminamos a la escuela el jueves.

    We walk to school on Thursday.

    'Jueves' ends in 's' for both singular and plural.

  • Recibes paga el viernes.

    You get pocket money on Friday.

    'Paga' is a common word for a child's allowance.

  • Vamos a nadar el sábado.

    We go swimming on Saturday.

    Spanish uses 'vamos a nadar' for 'we go swimming'.

  • Hacemos los deberes por la tarde.

    We do homework in the afternoon.

    'Por la tarde' is used for 'in the afternoon'.

  • Salimos a las ocho.

    We leave at eight o'clock.

    Use 'a las' before the hour for 'at'.

To say 'on Monday' or 'on Tuesday', use the definite article 'el'. Do not capitalize the day unless it starts a sentence.
