Spanish phrases for taking charge of the class register

  • Después de que todos hayan llegado, cuento a los niños.

    After everyone has arrived, I count the children.

    'Hayan llegado' is the subjunctive form used to describe the completed condition.

  • Después de que los haya contado, se lo digo a la profesora.

    After I have counted them, I tell the teacher.

    'Se lo digo' means 'I tell it to her'.

  • Después de que ella haya revisado los nombres, cierra el registro.

    After she has checked the names, she closes the register.

    'El registro' refers to the attendance book.

  • Después de que me lo haya entregado, lo llevo abajo.

    After she has handed it to me, I take it downstairs.

    'Entregar' is commonly used for handing over items.

  • Después de que haya llegado a la oficina, llamo a la puerta.

    After I have reached the office, I knock on the door.

    'Llamar a la puerta' is the standard way to say 'to knock'.

  • Después de que alguien haya respondido, entro.

    After someone has answered, I go inside.

    'Entro' comes from 'entrar' (to enter).

  • Después de que haya entregado el registro, vuelvo a clase.

    After I have delivered the register, I return to class.

    'Vuelvo' is the present tense of 'volver' (to return).

  • Después de que haya terminado mi tarea, me uno a los demás.

    After I have finished my job, I join the others.

    'Me uno' is the reflexive form of 'unir' (to join).

Temporal Subordinate Clauses with 'Después de que'

To describe a sequence where one action must be completed before the next one starts in a routine, we use 'después de que' followed by the Present Perfect Subjunctive (Haber in subjunctive + Past Participle). The main result is then stated in the Present Tense.
