Project Shopping List in German

Saying “I need …”

Use “Ich brauche …” followed by the thing you need. Brauche is the ich (“I”) form of brauchen (“to need”). The thing you need is the direct object and takes the accusative case.

Accusative: a / an

German chooses the word for “a/an” by the noun’s gender, not its first sound. In the accusative, masculine ein changes to einen. Feminine eine and neuter ein stay the same.

Und means “and”. Both masculine nouns take einen.
