Spanish phrases for c1 three-quarter milestone

  • El portavoz del ayuntamiento dice que la propuesta aún está abierta a debate, por lo que tu respuesta podría marcar la diferencia.

    The council spokesperson says the proposal is still open for discussion, so your response could make a difference.

    Uses a standard reporting verb 'dice que' followed by the indicative for a neutral report.

  • Tus amigos dijeron que tenían muy pocos lugares para reunirse y que no podían llegar al otro parque por su cuenta.

    Your friends said they had too few places to meet and could not reach the other playground on their own.

    Demonstrates reported speech in the past (imperfect) to maintain the narrative flow of their claims.

  • El organizador de la consulta pide que los niños presenten sus propios comentarios dentro del plazo de respuesta indicado.

    The consultation organiser asks that children submit their own comments within the stated response period.

    Uses 'pide que' + subjunctive to report a formal request or requirement.

  • Con el permiso por escrito, vuestro grupo puede mostrar las sugerencias recopiladas durante la reunión escolar.

    With written permission, your group can display the suggestions collected during the school meeting.

    Features nominal style ('con el permiso') and a past participle used as an attribute ('recopiladas').

  • Es la pérdida de un lugar de encuentro cercano lo que nos preocupa, si bien la necesidad de tranquilidad de los vecinos también merece consideración.

    It is the loss of a nearby meeting place that concerns us, although residents' need for quiet deserves consideration too.

    Uses a focus cleft ('Es... lo que...') and a formal concession ('si bien').

  • El organizador de la encuesta afirma haber consultado a todos los clubes locales, salvo que nuestro club no recibió ninguna invitación.

    The survey organiser claims to have consulted every local club, except that our club received no invitation.

    Uses 'afirma haber' for subjective claims and 'salvo que' to introduce an exception.

  • Por muy razonable que parezca un horario de cierre más temprano, afectaría a los niños cuyas actividades terminan más tarde.

    However reasonable an earlier closing time may seem, it would affect children whose activities finish later.

    Uses the 'Por muy [adjective] que + subjunctive' structure for advanced qualification.

  • Vuestro grupo dijo que sugeriría un periodo de prueba; presentémoslo como su propuesta real, no como una posibilidad inventada por nosotros.

    Your group said they would suggest a trial period; let's present that as their actual proposal, not as a possibility we invented.

    Uses the conditional ('sugeriría') to report a future-in-the-past intention.

Reporting Claims and Requests

At C1, we use various moods to report information. 'Decir que' + indicative is neutral. 'Pedir que' + subjunctive reports a request. 'Afirmar' + infinitive (perfect) reports a claim the speaker may not verify.

Advanced Concession and Clefts

To balance arguments, we use cleft sentences to emphasize the main point and 'Por muy... que' to acknowledge counter-arguments.
