Little Reasons Matter in Spanish

Helping children understand the logic behind daily routines fosters cooperation. In Spanish, we use the connector 'porque' to explain reasons. Unlike English, 'porque' is a single word used for statements, while 'por qué' is used for questions.

What you'll learn

  • Explain the reason for actions using 'porque'.
  • Describe simple cause-and-effect situations in daily life.
  • Learn vocabulary related to school, weather, and home activities.

Spanish phrases for little reasons matter

  • Nos vamos ahora porque la escuela empieza pronto.

We are leaving now because school starts soon.

Use 'nos vamos' for the action of departing.

  • Guardo una manzana porque te gustan las manzanas.

I am packing an apple because you like apples.

'Gustar' functions like 'to be pleasing to', so 'las manzanas' is the subject.

  • Necesitas tu abrigo porque hace frío.

You need your coat because it is cold.

We use the verb 'hacer' (to do/make) to describe weather conditions like 'hace frío'.

  • Vamos caminando porque la escuela está cerca.

We are walking because the school is nearby.

'Cerca' is an adverb of place; use 'está' for location.

  • Te ayudo porque esta tarea es difícil.

I am helping you because this homework is difficult.

'Tarea' usually refers specifically to school homework.

  • Leemos este libro porque te encantan los animales.

We are reading this book because you love animals.

'Encantar' is a stronger version of 'gustar' (to love/be enchanted by).

  • Tu amigo viene porque quieren jugar juntos.

Your friend is coming over because you want to play together.

'Viene' indicates the friend is coming to your current location.

  • Compramos pan blando porque tienes un diente flojo.

We are buying soft bread because your tooth is loose.

'Flojo' or 'suelto' are used to describe a loose tooth.
