Spanish phrases for our little seed corner

  • Las semillas están en la maceta pequeña.

    The seeds are in the little pot.

    'En' can mean both 'in' and 'on' depending on the context.

  • Nuestra planta está en el alféizar de la ventana.

    Our plant is on the windowsill.

    'Alféizar' is the specific word for a windowsill.

  • La regadera está debajo de la mesa.

    The watering can is under the table.

    'Debajo de' always requires 'de' before the noun.

  • ¿Está la bandeja al lado de la ventana?

    Is the tray next to the window?

    Use 'al lado de' for 'next to' or 'beside'.

  • Hay un poco de tierra en el cubo.

    There is some soil in the bucket.

    'Hay' is used for 'there is' or 'there are' when stating existence.

  • Una hojita está en la planta.

    A tiny leaf is on the plant.

    'Hojita' is the diminutive form of 'hoja' (leaf), meaning 'little leaf'.

  • La maceta más grande está al lado de la puerta.

    The bigger pot is next to the door.

    'Más grande' is the way to say 'bigger' in Spanish.

  • Nuestros brotes están al sol.

    Our seedlings are in the sunshine.

    'Al sol' literally translates to 'to the sun', but it means 'in the sun'.

Prepositions of Place

To describe where something is, we use the verb 'estar' combined with a preposition. If the preposition is followed by 'el', 'de' and 'el' combine to form 'del'.
