Spanish phrases for thoughtful little gifts

  • Este libro es para tu hermano.

    This book is for your brother.

    Use 'para' before the person receiving the item.

  • ¿Compramos una tarjeta para la maestra?

    Shall we buy a card for the teacher?

    'Maestra' is feminine; use 'maestro' for a male teacher.

  • Estos lápices son para los niños.

    These pencils are for the children.

    'Los niños' can refer to a group of boys or a mixed group of children.

  • Estamos haciendo un póster para el club.

    We are making a poster for the club.

    'Haciendo' means 'making' or 'doing'.

  • Tengo una pequeña sorpresa para ti.

    I have a little surprise for you.

    Notice that 'tú' changes to 'ti' after the preposition 'para'.

  • ¿Esta pulsera es para ella?

    Is this bracelet for her?

    Pronouns like 'ella', 'él', and 'nosotros' don't change after 'para'.

  • Puedes elegir un cómic para él.

    You can choose a comic for him.

    Don't forget the accent on 'él' to distinguish it from 'el' (the).

  • Tu amigo ha hecho galletas para nosotros.

    Your friend has made biscuits for us.

    'Ha hecho' means 'has made'.
