Weather From The Pram in German

Use these simple German phrases to notice the weather with your child while out with the pram.

German phrases for weather from the pram

  • Es ist heute sonnig.

    It is sunny today.

    Sonnig means sunny. You can say this while pointing out the sunshine.

  • Es ist heute bewölkt.

    It is cloudy today.

    Bewölkt describes a sky with clouds.

  • Es ist draußen windig.

    It is windy outside.

    Draußen means outside.

  • Es ist heute regnerisch.

    It is rainy today.

    Regnerisch describes rainy weather. If rain is falling now, you can also say Es regnet: It is raining.

  • Draußen liegt Schnee.

    It is snowy outside.

    German naturally says there is snow outside when snow covers the ground. If snow is falling, say Es schneit: It is snowing.

  • Es ist heute kalt.

    It is cold today.

    Kalt describes cold weather.

  • Es ist draußen warm.

    It is warm outside.

    Warm has the same meaning as in English.

  • Es ist heute heiß.

    It is hot today.

    Heiß means hot. The letter ß sounds like the s in sun.

Es ist + weather adjective

Es ist means it is. Add an adjective to describe the weather. Adjectives used after ist do not need an extra ending. You can put heute or draußen between ist and the adjective.

Talking about rain and snow

German also uses special verbs for rain and snow. These do not take ist. To describe snow already on the ground, use Draußen liegt Schnee, literally Outside lies snow.
