Review: remembering and comparing
Use familiar Perfekt forms to recall completed actions. Use a comparative followed by als to compare two things.
| Use | Form | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Perfekt | haben or sein + past participle | Wir haben eine Brücke gebaut. |
| Comparative | länger als | Diese Brücke ist länger als die alte. |
Review: recipients and ownership
With leihen and zeigen, the recipient is dative. A standalone possessive replaces the noun; its form matches the thing owned, not the owner.
| Use | Form | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Pronoun recipient | mir | Kannst du mir deine Lok leihen? |
| Named recipient | Opa as the dative recipient | Zeigt Opa eure Fahrkarten. |
| Standalone possessive | der Wagen → meiner | Der grüne Wagen ist meiner. |
Review: actions, reasons and thoughts
Match the reflexive pronoun to the subject. In clauses with weil or dass, put the finite verb at the end: weil gives a reason; dass introduces the content of a thought or statement.
| Use | Form | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Reflexive action | wir setzen uns hin | Wir setzen uns hin. |
| Reason | weil + subject + … + finite verb | Wir setzen uns hin, weil das Spiel anfängt. |
| Thought | Ich denke, dass + subject + … + finite verb | Ich denke, dass alle eine Fahrkarte haben. |
Review: instructions and sequencing
Choose the command form for your listener: one child, several children or someone addressed politely. After a sequencing word, keep the finite verb in second position.
| Use | Form | Example |
|---|---|---|
| One child | zeig | Zeig Opa deine Fahrkarte. |
| Several children | zeigt | Kinder, zeigt Opa eure Fahrkarten. |
| Polite command | zeigen Sie | Zeigen Sie bitte Ihre Fahrkarte. |
| Sequencing | zuerst / dann / danach / zum Schluss + finite verb + subject | Zuerst fährt der Zug über die Brücke. |
