Neither choice fits in German
Use weder ... noch to explain that neither of two possibilities fits. It means “neither ... nor” and can link words or phrases, including people, things and actions.

The answer is neither seven nor nine.
Weder ... noch rules out both numbers.
Ich kann weder pfeifen noch mit den Fingern schnippen.
I can neither whistle nor snap my fingers.
The pair links two actions that share kann.
Dieser Schlüssel passt weder zum Tor noch zum Schrank.
This key fits neither the gate nor the cupboard.
Place weder and noch before the two matching phrases: zum Tor and zum Schrank.
Weder Mama noch Papa weiß das Passwort.
Neither Mum nor Dad knows the password.
The pair links two subjects. With two singular people, singular weiß is possible and natural here.
Das Geräusch kam weder aus dem einen noch aus dem anderen Zimmer.
The noise came from neither room.
German spells out the two alternatives: “neither from one room nor from the other.”
Wir brauchen für diese Aufgabe weder Kleber noch Schnur.
We need neither glue nor string for this task.
Weder ... noch already excludes both materials; do not add nicht.
Auf dem Etikett steht weder ein Name noch ein Datum.
The label has neither a name nor a date.
A natural German phrasing is “Neither a name nor a date is on the label.” Keep ein in both linked phrases.
Ich habe diesen Vogel vorher weder gesehen noch gehört.
I have neither seen nor heard that bird before.
Weder ... noch links gesehen and gehört; both share habe.

Two exclusions, one pair
Weder ... noch means “neither ... nor.” Put weder directly before the first excluded item and noch before the second. The pair supplies the negative meaning, so do not add nicht or replace the articles with kein.

Link matching words or phrases
Link items that do the same job in the sentence: two subjects, two actions or two prepositional phrases. Shared words can stay outside the pair. Weder ... noch does not introduce a subordinate clause.

Two actions share möchte. No extra nicht is needed.
