Use für to name who a little gift or everyday item is intended for. These caring phrases help you talk about things prepared for your baby and family.

Dieses saubere Lätzchen ist für das Baby.
This clean bib is for the baby.
Lätzchen and Baby are neuter nouns. After für, das stays das.
Diese kleine Decke ist für den Teddy.
This little blanket is for the teddy.
Teddy is masculine: der Teddy becomes für den Teddy.
Diese Tasse Tee ist für Mama.
This cup of tea is for Mum.
Tasse Tee means 'cup of tea'; no word for 'of' is needed. Mama is used like a name here, without an article.
Dieses Sandwich ist für Papa.
This sandwich is for Dad.
Papa is used like a name here, without an article.
Das warme Handtuch ist für dich.
The warm towel is for you.
Use dich after für when speaking to one child or another person you address informally.
Dieses Glas Wasser ist für mich.
This glass of water is for me.
Use mich, not ich, after für. Glas Wasser means 'glass of water'.

Your brother is hungry; this banana is for him.

Für always takes the accusative
Für means 'for'. Here it shows who an item is intended for. The noun or pronoun directly after für must be in the accusative. With definite articles, only masculine der changes to den; die, das and plural die stay the same.
