Welcome Project Guests in German
Use friendly German commands to help children present their projects and welcome adult guests. Use ihr commands for several children and polite Sie commands for adult guests.

German phrases for welcome project guests
Kinder, stellt eure Modelle auf den Tisch.
Children, put your models on the table.
Stellt is the plural command from stellen. Eure Modelle means “your models” when speaking to several children.
Sprecht beide langsam.
Both of you, speak slowly.
Sprecht addresses more than one person. Beide makes it clear that you mean both children.
Kinder, zeigt uns eure Plakate.
Children, show us your posters.
Zeigt is the plural command from zeigen. Uns means “us.”
Hört alle der nächsten Gruppe zu.
Everyone, listen to the next group.
Hört alle addresses everyone in the group. Zuhören splits into hört … zu and takes the dative: der nächsten Gruppe.
Frau Weber, kommen Sie bitte herein.
Mrs Weber, please come in.
The polite command uses verb + Sie. Herein means “in” towards the speaker.
Herr Braun, setzen Sie sich bitte hierhin.
Mr Braun, please sit down here.
Sich setzen means “to sit down.” Keep sich in the command: setzen Sie sich.
Frau Weber, nehmen Sie bitte ein Programmheft.
Mrs Weber, please take a programme.
Programmheft is a printed programme for an event. The polite command is nehmen Sie.
Herr Braun, schauen Sie sich bitte das Modell der Kinder an.
Mr Braun, please look at the children's model.
Sich etwas anschauen means “to look at something.” An goes at the end. Der Kinder means “of the children.”

Use these titles with a surname when addressing adult guests politely. Frau does not indicate marital status.
Commands for several children: ihr
Use the normal ihr present-tense verb form, but leave out ihr. You can add Kinder, beide or alle to show whom you are addressing.

Polite commands: Sie
For these verbs, use the infinitive form followed by Sie. Always capitalize polite Sie and keep it in the command. Bitte makes the request more courteous. This form works for one adult or several adults.

Separable verbs in commands
With separable verbs, the main verb comes near the beginning and the prefix goes at the end. Words such as bitte and the object go between them.
