With it or without it in German
Use mit (with) to say who or what comes along, and ohne (without) to say who or what is left out. Mit always takes the dative; ohne always takes the accusative.

Mit takes the dative: du becomes dir. This addresses one person informally.
Bitte fang nicht ohne mich an.
Please don't start without me.
Ohne takes the accusative: ich becomes mich. This addresses one person informally.
Schaffen wir es ohne den Einkaufswagen?
Can we manage without the trolley?
Der Einkaufswagen becomes den Einkaufswagen after ohne. Here, 'trolley' means a shopping trolley.
Mit einer Taschenlampe ist es einfacher.
It's easier with a torch.
Eine Taschenlampe becomes einer Taschenlampe after mit.
Das Spiel funktioniert ohne Batterien.
The game works without batteries.
Ohne is followed by the accusative plural Batterien, with no article here.

Fixed cases: mit and ohne
The preposition decides the case, even when the sentence describes movement. Mit always needs the dative, and ohne always needs the accusative.

Articles after mit and ohne
Choose the article form that matches the noun's gender and the preposition's case. In the dative plural, nouns usually add -n unless they already end in -n or -s.

Personal pronouns after mit and ohne
Use a pronoun instead of repeating a person's name or a noun. The pronoun must still have the case required by the preposition.

Ohne euch addresses more than one person informally.
